Call for Submission for 2016 Alexander Muse Teen Literary Magazine



The Alexander Muse is excited about the 2016 edition that will debut April 19 during Poetry Month!  This will be the 7th magazine published containing works by Alexander County high school students.  

Entries are currently being accepted in photography, poetry, short story prose, and 2D artworks.  Students may submit as many items in as many categories as they wish, but may not place in more than one category.  The last day to submit is Monday, February 29, 2016 and it is free to submit.

Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category with honorable mentions as well. 

The debut reception will be April 19, 2016 at Reformation Lutheran Church at 3:30 pm.  Music and refreshments will be provided. 

Don't miss an opportunity to be published in high school!  The contest is open to all 9th - 12th grade students from Alexander County, regardless of public, private, boarding, or home school status.   

Photography in a jpeg format may be emailed to Mel Hager at mhager@alexandercountync.gov .

Short story and prose pieces must be emailed to Beth Duncan at bduncan@alexander.k12.nc.us . Prose works cannot be more than 500 words.  Poetry can be no more than 42 lines counting the title.

Artworks should be dropped by Robbin Isenhour Stewart's classroom if you are an Alexander Central student or brought by the library in Taylorsville to Mel Hager if homeschooled or attend another school.

Please include a title for all works submitted with name and contact information attached.

The Alexander Muse 2014 Edition, Now On The Web

We are pleased to present the 2014 online edition of The Alexander Muse!  Last year's edition was in full color thanks to a community grant from company, Carris Reels, of Statesville.  Hard copies of the collection are still available at the Lucas Mansion of The Hiddenite Center for $5.

The 2015 edition will debut on April 21, 2015 and will also be in full color thanks to Carris Reels. Will your art, poetry, short story prose, or photogragh grace the collection?  

Short stories should have no more than 500 words.  Poetry (including title) should have 40 lines or less in any form or free verse.  Only digital photographs (or digitized) please. Artwork can be in any medium, but 2 dimensional. It is free to submit as many items in as many categories as you wish. 

Will you be published in high school, Alexander County high school students?  New submission date of March 9, 2015 due to the rough weather. Enter your works and find out.
